22nd June 2010
Windsurfing: La Franqui-France
Wind Direction: nw
Wind Stength: 20/35
Surf / Sea State: flat/choppy
Air Temperature: 29
Sea Temperature: 20
Weather: sunny
Max Speed: 32.61 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 31 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

With no wind forecast for today and after another good night by the Etang we woke to 30 mph winds !!! So we parked up at our spot in the square at La Franqui and a couple of freeriders were out with 4.2 and as I had measured wind gusting 35 mph on the beach I decided go go with the speedboard with 5.2 as there was somebody already out on the speedcourse the 2 to 3 miles upwind !!! I made it two thirds of the way sailing but the wind went light and had to walk the last part.
I met Facebook friend and Dutch speedsailer Dylan de Jong and had a good chat with him and it was great to see someone else out on the speed strip !!! He was out on 5.5 and his F2 missle and was going well having recorded 39 kts !!! but I was never powered up with 5.2 and struggled to 31 kts :( and should have rigged the 6.4 !!!
So I sailed-walked back to show Mag that I was still alive !!! had a quick bit to eat, rigged the big kit and again the long beat !!!! It is along way to sail and you do end up along way off the beach in the offshore winds and it’s a shame you can,t park closer on the beach like the kite buggy people do !!! will have to see if I can park there next time !!! I had some fun on the slalom gear but only made a disappointing 32 kts !!! but at least I managed to sail all the way back to La Franqui !!!
I think I prefer Gruissan ,it might not be as fast but it’s much more fun to sail and you can park right on the beach !!!!
Met up with Dylan in the square and he said there is more wind this Monday but sadley we will be home !!!
To finish the day Mag and I had a walk at Cap Leucate cliffs and then back to our favourite spot by the Etang for a meal with the sun setting over the mountains :)
